So one company that just is blowing up right now is "Clear" which is the same company as "Clearwire". They specialize in city wide WiFi, which is now called WiMAX. You know you can usually get a wireless signal when you go to a coffee shop, or in a local restaurant. But what about when you need internet access, and there is no WiFi network around, or they want you to pay a fee to access their network?

WiMAX is available CITY-WIDE and has speed bursts up to 10mbps. Now of course they say your average speeds are 3-6mbps. If you do some research you will find several new cities popping up soon that will have WiMAX capabilities.

4G is the next revolution in wireless technology. Sprint says they offer it but again, it's only available in about 25 cities currently. Later this year in 2010, 4G is planned to expand to 6 new major US cities, including the Bay Area, Ca. Which will be a huge market for WiMAX.
Now begs the question does it work. I have a friend of mine that recently became a Clear Authorized Dealer. He paid a ,000 deposit, and (more expenses) he got sent all the "trial" equipment. Now he lives in Dallas, TX so they are one of the markets that WiMAX just recently launched in. He's had Verizon Wireless for about 2 years with their 3G air card, which is pretty crappy considering you pay per month for it. With WiMAX plans you pay about per month, and ( per month extra you get expanded 3G coverage) you get 4G speed (3-6mbps) all over the city. So the first few days of course he tested it and where ever the WiMAX map said it would work, it did! Plus the speeds were 5 times faster than his 3G card with Verizon Wireless went. The Verizon/ATT, and Sprint Air cards, only allow 5 Gigs of usage (They won't tell you that when you buy it) so you can go over, which I personally have. If you want a lot of movies, or download music, not only will be be very slow, but it will make you go over. I received a 0 Bill!!
So with the WiMAX technology, you get fast, unlimited, reliable service, all over your city. And for extra bucks you can get 3G coverage all over the USA! Cool eh?
