Many teachers are already using laptop computers. They hook up their laptop to a projector, and use presentation programs, like Power Point, to structure their lectures.

Here's how you can use a tablet PC to get even more interactive.

A tablet PC uses a pen to interact with the computer. So you actually draw on the screen, just like you used to when you used a chalkboard or whiteboard.

It's true that some schools have those fancy, electronic whiteboards. Maybe you're that lucky, but probably not. Most schools can't afford such technology. But most teachers if they budgeted could afford a tablet PC. Then they'd have the same functionality as the electronic whiteboards!

Here's another idea. As you draw all over your presentation, to keep the students interested, wear a wireless headset and record your lecture.

You can use a screen-capture program to record all your circling and scribbling. Then you can upload this video to a server, and share it with your students so they can view it at a later date if they want to review or couldn't make your original lecture.

With a little bit of practice, you could really improve your lectures just by putting together the old and the new. A lot of students find presentations boring, so profs try to jazz them up by using effects. But these usually just annoy rather than help. But by paying attention, and pointing out things by circling and drawing with the pen, you can really improve your lectures.
